Roundabouts vs Traffic Signals

Interesting contrast. In Australia, people seem increasingly keen to replace roundabouts with traffic signals. Meanwhile in Canada they’re doing the reverse: taking out the signals and putting in roundabouts.
Context matters, of course. But as a general rule, give me a well-designed roundabout over a set of traffic signals.
Lower conflict speeds. Fewer severe conflict types. And, with appropriate pedestrian and cycling facilities, a much safer and more forgiving intersection for all road users.
